How Mac McClung Built the Ultimate Slam Dunk Playbook

For the first time since 2023, Mac McClung won’t be participating in the NBA Slam Dunk contest. The 6-foot-2 Gate City native was the first person ever to win a three-peat, winning in 2023, 2024 and 2025, a run that revived a flat and mundane competition. Nate Robinson is the only other player to win three titles (2006, 2009, 2010). For McClung though, his feat should earn him a spot among the dunking greats – if not the greatest. Sorry, Vince.
 

“I did kind of look at them like albums,” the 27-year-old said about his three-peat years. “The most fun was the first one (2023) because it’s the first time something goes well and it was really cool to experience it but the last one (2025) felt like the most put together set of dunks.”
